Silver Spring Special

So we went to this place called the Quarry House in silver spring & anyone who enjoys belgium beers would love this place. It was one of those mythical dive bars with no sign that you enter through a shady stairwell to the basement.
Also fun bathroom graffiti.

Naughty GQ, Horrible Hudson News

So according to Hudson News, that first image is ok but the second one is porn and GQ will need a cover over the bottom half for it to appear on their news stands.

The Fantastic Planet

Another subtitled movie & it was terrific. I was attracted to the movie because it was said to be based on the Soviet occupation of the Czech Republic & the film won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 1973.

Traags keep humans, Oms as pets. They are treated like gerbils/strays. We watch Terr(Om) grow up in a high officals home after the daughter, Tiwa(Traag) rescues him. Once Terr starts listening to Tiwa's lessons. ideas begin to blossom. He escapes with this knowledge and becomes entangled in the wild Oms society.

A great fantasy, all the strange beings are very fun. Short & sweet. I highly recommend.

DOMA is dumb

The Defense of Marriage Act, DOMA is horrible.

The Obama DOJ writing a brief defending DOMA that compares gay marriage to incest & child marriage is total crap. Yes, I understand it is the law, but does the Obama DOJ need to make those comparisons to uphold the law? I think not.

overturn that shit.

I have no wares to sell

Well now that my blog has a name, I think it needs a purpose. I have no product to push, but I do have quite a few ideas. Everything seems very general for now. I have yet to narrow my purpose or really pick up a specific cause, in life or the law. I have aspirations but I also have quite a bit to learn.

I hope this blog will grow with me and be a place that I can store a treasure trove of links and snippets that cross my desk.

Inaugural Event

I got the name for this blog from a line in "A Man for all Seasons":

Cromwell: Now, Sir Thomas, you stand on your silence.

Sir Thomas More: I do.

Cromwell: But, gentlemen of the jury, there are many kinds of silence. Consider first the silence of a man who is dead. Let us suppose we go into the room where he is laid out, and we listen: what do we hear? Silence. What does it betoken, this silence? Nothing; this is silence pure and simple. But let us take another case. Suppose I were to take a dagger from my sleeve and make to kill the prisoner with it; and my lordships there, instead of crying out for me to stop, maintained their silence. That would betoken! It would betoken a willingness that I should do it, and under the law, they will be guilty with me. So silence can, according to the circumstances, speak! Let us consider now the circumstances of the prisoner's silence. The oath was put to loyal subjects up and down the country, and they all declared His Grace's title to be just and good. But when it came to the prisoner, he refused! He calls this silence. Yet is there a man in this court - is there a man in this country! - who does not know Sir Thomas More's opinion of this title?

Crowd in court gallery: No!

Cromwell: Yet how can this be? Because this silence betokened, nay, this silence was, not silence at all, but most eloquent denial!

Sir Thomas More: Not so. Not so, Master Secretary. The maxim is "Qui tacet consentiret": the maxim of the law is "Silence gives consent". If therefore you wish to construe what my silence betokened, you must construe that I consented, not that I denied.

Cromwell: Is that in fact what the world construes from it? Do you pretend that is what you wish the world to construe from it?

Sir Thomas More: The world must construe according to its wits; this court must construe according to the law.

I first watched that movie when I still worked on the Hill. They had a screening & it was terrific.

So I already know I am behind the times & I have decided to do something about it. Quarter life will find me totally hip ... joining twitter(not a fan so far), creating a blog & I went to yoga for the first time last week. Just trying to stay relevant.
