Sundance 2010

So there is a buzz and they are renting them on utube and available on demand, but I want to be there.

I tried watching trailers of a few of the titles I had heard thrown around, but most of them did not really seem to have trailers or maybe once had trailers up but were taken down for copyright reasons. I guess you do need to control your image.

Last night I had gotten all excited and saved a bunch of websites I thought would lead me to good trailers (can't really watch them at work). However when I got home, it was lacking and my Phantom didn't really like the Artist specials (mainly just where the director talks about the movie). More of the documentaries had trailers available, delightfully depressing per usual.

I really would love to go. Sadly law school once again trounces on my ideas of fun. I guess I will just have to satisfy myself with the Maryland Film festival when that comes around again.

Alabama Roots

I love this picture. It is up in my bedroom.
Also I think I need to cool it on the wedding planning for a little bit.
I have been getting ahead of myself.

IF #2

Another trend in bridesmaids fashion is doing all light colors. I was talking to a girlfriend the other day and she said that bridesmaids used to dress similar to the bride to confuse evil spirits that might want to hurt the bride. I like this fable immensely.

Jcrew *
Also maybe to pull in the muted tones to my dress I could add a sash of some sort.

The other idea I am toying with is a tiered look, or ruffles:

IF #1

IF I did have bridesmaids, here is an idea:

The top dress is from j-crew(black plum) & the bottom from Bluefly.

One the second one, maybe black tights and black shoes.

Charleston in January

South Carolina is crazy, but alluring.

Went down south to see Abba Zabba during the off season. Rain day one but overall what a pretty city. Started off with the always lovely corner mexican joint with huge margs. Food was a big theme. The next day we had some super subs at Jersey Mike's. Followed by a horse drawn carriage ride and tour with Carson. It was fun to get an overview of the city. We also stumbled upon a wedding and some bagpipes. Carson did not like that so much.

High Cotton was on the menu that night. It was nice to get fancy with the publishing ladies. I got my fried green tomatoes (fancy style) and chocolate fix.

The next day it was over to Sullivan's island and Poe's. It was fun to see a Baltimore native also spent some time in Charleston. They had a lot of neat Poe pictures and paintings. After a short walk on the beach we went back downtown to the Calhoun House. The place was crammed with antiques, in the victorian style. I constantly felt like I was going to break something. This was followed by a relaxing evening, some football, some Sushi & Up.

Our last day, Phantom and I parked at the end of the peninsula and walked up to the market. We peeked into little shops and museums too cheap to actually pay admission. Walked through Charleston's oldest cemetery and ended up at a delightful little bakery, Baked.

ALso I learned that the signers of the Declaration of the Independence did it geographically. Take a look next time, it starts from the south aka Georgia and works it's way up, left to right.
Also I want a fancy camera ... and time to learn how to play with a fancy camera.

Court TV

SO I have been thinking more about public access to government and the judiciary. In a conference 2 years ago I watched a presentation about how day time tv court dramas have affected the common mans view of the courts. While it did help them understand they needed evidence or documentation it also gave them a false sense that minorities were represented in judgeships.

Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled on whether they should allow video of the Prop 8 fight in CA to be broadcast. In a 5-4 decision they ruled no. Justice Breyer dissented, joined by Justices Stevens, Ginsburg, and Sotomayor. I still would like to read the opinion to try and understand the logic more. I think it would be a good thing to have a more open conversation about Prop 8 and gay marriage. One where people can not hide behind bigotry but need to logically explain why they think it necessary to deprive rights from others.

Now with Twitter, facebook, blackberrys and all other social media we constantly stream, it does seem that there is a barricade in the courts. I used to think opening up courts would just turn courts into circuses but now I think it might help hold people liable for their actions/arguments.

A law student right now is doing something on his own vein. He is attempting to be the first person in line for all this term of the supreme court. (http://f11f.wordpress.com/) There is no denying social media is here, now I think the court just needs to keep up.

The Fabric of our lives

Next to a picture of my Alabama grandparents at their wedding, I used to have a little red vase with a branch of dried cotton in it. I have been thinking more about cotton recently.

It can be so pretty and simple. The Mr. wants the design and the feel of our wedding to have sentimental value, which may end up driving us insane but is a sweet thought, finding love in the details. I always really enjoyed the fields around my grandparents house. Maybe I will pick some up on my next trip down south and play with this idea a little more. A mason jar with a white velvet ribbon? I am also tossing around paper flowers and white poppies.
I am worried about this thing having no cohesion.

Grill Art

BYOB and aiming to please.

Nice little joint in Hamden with odd hours. Father/son art work hung on the walls for sale, and Father/son were actually dining with a group in the back of the restaurant.

The food was good without going overboard. The waitstaff was funny and everything was very reasonably priced.

New to 2010

2010 sounds like a strong year, a new decade.

Did a finger wave to ring in the new year and my Phantom seems to be getting better and better at this cooking business.

BIG THINGS ahead. School starts back up on Monday.

The Bridesmaid Question

bridal party or not to party?

So it is a hassle and there are feelings involved, and I want everyone to be a part of it and next thing I know I will have 50 bridesmaid and no one seated in the pews. BUT they could look so cute:

Mainly in love with the gloves. Also it is called Quail Bridal. Bird theme works.

And the bird theme also goes with the hat theme:
urban outfitters
modcloth

No matter ... this can not be decieded until I have a budget and a date.

However, this makes me want to party:
