Shoe fly don't bother me

They are called little Owl and I love them ... even if they are 4" heels and may lead to the bride's death by tumble. I have actually worn this brand before and I find them incredibly comfortable.

Suit shopping is bloody bloody bloody hard. Our first trips as newbies we sort of gut an idea of what we liked, second trip we tried to find that Navy 3 piece suit with side vents just to get looks like we were martians.

Must go back to the drawing board ... I really like this tie too.

So I have seen quite a few handkerchief invites and thought they looked lovely. This one was also featured on design sponge and the graphics are delightful:

However since it is too late for that I thought about maybe we could make them for the programs … but then I thought longer and if people to use them to wipe their eyes that could be a little weird since peoples names would be on the program. And blowing your nose on the bridesmaids seems unwelcome.

However – what if we just had lighter fabric printed up with the crest? And had it wrapped on the outside of the program?

They got me hook line and sinker, but what is more I want these medals for my bridal party. I think I have decided it has to happen. I need something like this, I am throwing all my fears about midevil times (due to the crest) to the wind. I WANT some, dang it, but how? My quick google search really did not pan out, maybe I can post on etsy? I think there is some way you can post what you want and take bids now ... hmmm

All this pin/badge talk actually reminds me of how on capitol hill all the elected officials are suppose to wear these little flag diddies (helps the guards recognize them so they can go around the metal detectors). I mean they have real badges too, but all members also constantly wear their pins. I miss D.C. and yes I have been reminiscing about the hill lately. In my fantasies the streets are paved with gold.

Brit envy

Seriously all the stuff I want is from the UK. Why is overseas shipping so expensive, and why is all the cool stuff over there? Damn ... wish I was there.

Ce n'est pas un mariage

So we have been looking into photographers ... correction he has been looking into photographers. As part of the work load break down that is his job.

We are going to play camera with a friend today to get a better idea of what we like and to try to get some decent images of us hopefully looking like an attractive couple. I have a few ideas and some props. I have the snap braclet from the night we met ... books ... records ... old luggage ... red lip stick .. Lucy. Not sure if any or all of these will be used but it should be fun to play.

I like the idea of having a final print with the cursive french words This is not a Wedding overlayed at our feet.

Save the Date by firing squad

FAILED IDEA:

I wanted to play off this propaganda poster and have an image of us holding a boat like the one below with our date on it. However Alex commented the fact that all his mother's family was actually in the navy and had to deal with sinking boats that everyone might not enjoy it. Death by PC.

ANOTHER FAIL:

I really liked all the ads for Where the Wild are ... especially the one below. I thought we could go hide behind a tree and find that font somewhere. It got voted down.

Summer Lovin

So I have been busy, some set backs, some accomplishments.

Bridesmaid dress - check

Crest/monogram - check

Photographer - check .... oh no wait ... our wedding date is her due date. Back to the drawing board on that one.

My most recent project was actually inspired by a trip to an art gallery in NYC. My very tallest friend took us to a show were the artist had used broken records for mosaic portraits. It was awesome and got the wheels in my head turning. So Alex and I went to the outlet goodwill (yes this really is a place) and bought records by the pound. Here is what I have so far:

I am thinking table numbers right now but we will see what it eventually turns into.

Busy week when all I want to do is sleep.

HAIR!

This hair makes me want to talk with a southern drawl and drink whiskey.

Imagine my suprise when Alex said he actually liked it. Keeping this in mind for the wedding. :) Although I would probably wilt.

I thought previously thought of some sort of high smooth french twist.

Also big hair is not a crime, it's hard to tame my inner southern lady.

crest confusion

SO this is the picture that led me to go with our particular artist for the wedding invites. She just gave us back some initial sketches and I am afraid I over managed it and should have given her some more breathing room. She actually drew exactly what I had explained and now I am having second thoughts. I am spending the night combing over coat of arms, seals and crests trying to pull from them to make my own ... I wish the creative process was easier.

So we have began collecting books for the center pieces and it has been amazing fun. We have found some real lookers.

I just ran across this stamp idea ... I like ... however would i be ruining the beautiful books we worked so hard to find?

Also the custom crest seems to be coming along swimmingly.

Bridesmaid rough draft

Navy dress and red heels. Possibly a white shawl or cover up so the ladies don't freeze.

I think I might need to work on the shoes more, or see if i can find a dress at a lower price point. We shall see ...

ALSO I have gotten excited about the idea of teacup flowers. Here is sort of the idea:

Wouldn't that be cute sitting on top a pile of books? I should be thinking exams but having a deep internal debate over linen colors.

Wedding glasses?

I know I have said I want to do my own make up because I want to look like myself on the big ol' wedding day ... however recently I have been trolling cheap online glasses and the idea of wedding glasses hit me. Which is probably another pseudo-mask, but I could always take them off (unlike makeup) since I am not that totally blind yet.

So I sort of really love the second one because it is called East Brewton, which is the same town that my Alabama family is from.

I know they are loud, but I am scared of contacts and if I do it, why not make a statement?

We had already considered having a pair of fake reading glasses to top off the pile of statment books in the table. Too themey? Eh Justification ~ I should probably own a pair of 'fun' glasses anyway.

Bridesmaid redux

Again thoughts of health care, cabin and teaparty nonsense dance in my head but this post will be much lighter. I do not want to bore people in real life with what feels like trival selfish thoughts, but I sure am going to bore the internet world.

Here is my new thought for the wedding ... work in progress. The plum and cameo just wasn't feeling like it had enough pop for my taste.

Also I feel like an uber teen for using polyvore.

Life's a Hoot

SO I was actually really happy about how this little guy turned out. He may have a lazy eye but I think that just adds to his adorableness. I could easily make like 15 of these bad boys. I am still afraid to feel like Cinderella(a bad thing), like I don't belong with all these nice things. I will show up with my little owls and get laughed at .... but I need this wedding to have a fun element, whimsy. If it turns out horrid at least I tried.

On the brightside, today is beautiful and has started out bursting at the seams. We met with a caterer and although I think I had a mini heart attack about prices, the creativity was abound. We were talking sliders and mini cheese steaks. They gave us the hard sell with pastries, a gift and a sit down with the head chef. Also a wine dinner on them! I know I am probably being suckered, but I think I like it. They made the experience so pleasant.

My next possible craft experiment:

Dreadfully Ironic Yuppy

So my grand ideas ...

The vase did not work out so well ... I actually sliced myself with a razor blade so I think we can officially call it a fail. I am not sure if I will go back to this project ... I think I need a better blade (better to cut myself with).

So the tree worked but needs some tweaking. Phantom is worried about it being able to hold up the 45 record. Back to the drawing board.

I think for my next trick I am going to try and make felt owls (HP owls) and possibly a felt tree. I think I might go to joanns tonight and get fenatic with felt.

Wedding Theme

I was going to write a post about how much John Roberts has been annoying me ... but somehow my mind has gone wedding. It is a sickness.

So we had to scrap some of the rustic ideas I had been tossing around. Mason jars and cotton just don't seem to fit in this space. I am usually a whirlwind when it comes to decorating and fashion and I am worried about having a cohesive look. Phantom got really excited about incorporating books and we had seen 45s used as table numbers so here are some of the elements I am thinking about:

They are on sale right now at Amazon. We had playfully discussed leather bound books but the covers on these beauties are to die for ... I am currently playing with the idea of stealing the look for the programs, I am thinking maybe silver Owls on dark purple paper? Eh we shall see.

Once wed has the HOW TO for this pretty sweet card box ....

Trying to find uses for my old law books, book trees or a vase.

One element that we were already considering was 45s as table numbers. I think maybe I could find a way to maybe have the 45 coming out of the paper vase pictured above? I also need to pick up some colored tape.

Colors: Deep Plum, Black & white (stripes? or dots?) and maybe a hint of pink or blush colored.

Also velvet ribbon and postcards and the kitchen sink.

Party!

So my summer reading list will be to become part of the Harry Potter Nation since it seems we might be using that font and owls as accents in the wedding. I like our magical wedding venue but my first impression was more Beauty & the Beast then Potter. Somehow we would like to make Hatch show prints, Potter, books and art nouveau work together without looking a hot mess. Oh ya, and we are totally having a bridal party:
